Plagued by mixing problems, Sonne Hagal's performance might have otherwise been great. There was a lot of feedback from the mic during the opening song, making it difficult to enjoy. It can be tough for someone running sound back-to-back for several artists they may not know; however, there is no excuse for bad sound for an entire set. At least the feedback from the mic stopped after the opening number. The singer/guitarist sounded very good, as did the other guitarist and the drummer. The melodies coming from the keyboard should have been a bit louder at the beginning, but somehow over the course of the show the level was actually lowered. This was a travesty as the string melodies are as important as the guitar and vocals for Sonne Hagal.

This would have all been tolerable except for the additional distraction of extremely poor mixing of the distortion pedal on for the bass. It was far too loud and drowned everything out. It should have been obvious even to anyone unfamiliar with their music to know the bass volume was unreasonably high. The only song where it was almost the right level was the last one. It was too late by that point.

When the bass wasn't washing over the other instruments, the songs sounded pretty good. They played a mix of newer and older songs, including several of their hits. They played a song by their guest guitarist, Vurgart, called "Hail To The Sun". It was a nice song and it went over well.

I went in with high hopes for this set, but felt disappointed when I left. They played all of my favorite songs; they played their instruments well. In many ways, that seemed moot because the mixing was so bad it made enjoying their efforts difficult. I hope to see them again in the future where they have someone who can properly mix their instruments.
