Kinetik Festival 2010 - Phase 4:
FabrikC, Terrorfakt, Nachtmahr, Destroid, Memmaker
@ Usine C [Montreal, Quebec (Canada)]

Had I known Scott and his music before Kinetik 2010, I would have made it a priority to get there in time for Ivardensphere. Next time!

I arrived just in time for Memmaker. As usual, they had a large audience and sounded great. People were ready to get their dance on to the technoid beats and sanguine melodies of a robot uprising. They played most of their album and a song or two I did not recognize. New songs? Near the end of the set, some outrageously dressed guys invaded the stage (happens every show in Montreal) to try and play their instruments. There is always a fake fight before they are ejected. This time there was a guy in a bloody bear suit plus dudes with afros and other props. The crowd ate up the music and sideshow.

Daniel Meyr's latest EBM project Destroid followed Memmaker. Clint from Synnack took care of the music so Daniel could concentrate on singing. As with previous Myer projects, the lyrics are well-written and suitably dark. The crowd seemed captivated by his performance, hanging on his every word. This was one of the only shows I saw where people were interested in listening to the lyrics instead of dancing. I did not stay until the end of the set since I had dinner plans. I am sad I missed their cover of The Sisters Of Mercy's "Lucretia, My Reflection".

I arrived at the venue after dinner just in time for Nachtmahr. It was a 4-on-the-floor dance-a-thon. All of the songs had steady beats to keep the fans moving. Thomas Rainer ran back and forth on stage shouting the verses, grabbing his crotch, and pointing the mic into the crowd for proper audience participation. The dancing was infectious. As much as I love the music, it gets repetitive when it goes on for fifty minutes, but it makes for good dancing.

With all the controversy surrounding Terrorfakt this year, lots of people were excited to see what this show would look and sound like. If you are unaware of what went down, the internet can inform you. Also know that the person who instigated this has since apologized. Anyway, this was the pinnacle of Terrorfakt shows. They had an incredible number of people on stage beating on metal drums and making sparks fly in all directions. I was getting hit twenty people back from the stage. The harsh, cold powernoise pummeled the hall like a sonic wave. There were enormous cheers from all when the smoke cleared. It was one hell of a live performance.

I missed most of Tactical Sekt's set and was not interested in seeing Hypnoskull again. Someone was not feeling well so I left after two Hocico songs. They sounded amazing, but I had to go. When I got back, people were just leaving the hall. They all said it was a fantastic show. I spent the next hour socializing as I did not want to see Dive. It is the one Dirk Ivens project I have never cared for.

The reason I went back to the venue was to see Fabrik C. By this point, most people had left. This gave us tons of room to dance! They brought some hard oontz to reward our dedication to seeing this night to the end. Most of the songs were fast and noisy with catchy melodies. They continued playing even when the lights came on. They only stopped when someone told them to. It was a great way to end the night!
