Combichrist Tour:
Combichrist, Ivardensphere
@ The Palladium - Upstairs [Worcester, MA (USA)]
After the success of the last Combichrist tour, they hit the road again with Ivardensphere as direct support. Unfortunately, Booming Tree Taiko was not with them this time around and it was a completely different kind of show. Yann Faussurier (Iszoloscope, Camanecroszcope, Memmaker) joined Ivardensphere between tours. This set was stripped down to 2 guys in tyvek suits, black gloves, and black aprons and a few electronics on stands. They looked like they were ready to work in a slaughterhouse.These butchers set to work on the audience with hard pounding rhythms a la Ivardensphere. When it was time, they switched over to some harder crunchier powernoise from Izsoloscope remixed by Ivardensphere. I was hoping they'd do something like that. The tempo was toned down a bit to give people a break. This was much appreciated. Before long, it was time to finish off the set with some more dance hits. That night was Scott's (main guy from Ivardenphere) birthday. Hope he survived whatever Combichirst did to him after the show!The last Combichrist show had a pretty epic light show. There were about 5 lights total this time. This wasn't an arena style show. It was a smaller, more intimate performance. It was a nice contrast since their setlist was almost identical to their last tour. The first encore song may have been different and they didn't play "This Shit Will Fuck You Up". They also added a guitarist.The crowd was fired up. The front was full of fist-pumping fans. The entire middle section was a mosh pit half the time. It was impossible for me to take pictures between the fists and arms near the stage or when I was further back with large, sweaty people hitting me at regular intervals. In the end I went to the balcony where two of the five lights were obscured from that vantage. Although my Combichrist pictures sucks, trust me, it was a good show.
